Cross, R. T., & Pitkethly, A. (1989). A curriculum model to improve young children’s concept of speed to reduce their pedestrian accident vulnerability. School Science and Mathematics, 89(4), 285-292. Research indicates that young children in the pedestrian accident prone age range of 4-8 years hold a variety of naive conceptions regarding the concept of speed (Cross & Mehegan, 1988), and that they use their naive conceptions at the curbside to make judgments upon which road crossing decisions may be made (Cross, 1988). A conceptual change approach is proposed to deal with this problem via a primary science unit. [Author Abstract] | |||
