Ideas for Making Bear Masks

To make your own masks;
- Provide a range of pictures for children to look at, of bears, encouraging them to note the bear features.
- Using firm paper or paper plates, have children draw a circular bear face.
- Cut out face, if using paper.
- Collect a range of collage materials, and have children add the relevant features of the bear face to the plate or paper. Suitable materials could include coloured paints, coloured paper, wool, fur, googly eyes, crepe paper.
- Attach elastic or wool to the sides of the mask in order to hold onto child’s face or attach a paddlepop stick to the base of the mask.
Using Templates
- Print mask template
- Have the children cut out bear mask template
- Paste template onto cardboard or firm paper
- Have the children cut out eye holes
- Encourage the children to colour and/or decorate mask as desired
- Attach a long loop of elastic onto each side of the mask or alternatively attach a paddlepop stick to the base of the mask.
