For students

Congratulations on choosing the early childhood education pathway! Working with young children and their families is a most rewarding career.

Some early childhood students may decide to undertake an assignment on road safety education during their studies. The Kids and Traffic team offers some assignment hints (PDF 186kb) to further your interest in keeping young children safe and to help you refine the issues.

The Kids and Traffic team can help students learn how to meet some requirements of the Education and Care Services National Quality Standard (NQS) (PDF on external website) and the principles of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) (PDF on external website).

We do this by offering a range of workshops (PDF 163kb) which equip early childhood education students at TAFE and universities with practical and fun ways to engage children and families in road safety education. These help children learn about road safety and support safe travel practices by families, enhancing

  • collaborative and enjoyable interactions with children
  • children’s learning and development
  • the protection of children
  • the acquisition of skills for life and learning
  • relationships with families and
  • family wellbeing

Early childhood students are also welcome to attend our free Kids and Traffic professional development workshops for educators – why not check out our workshop calendar?

The Kids and Traffic team wishes you well as you continue your journey in early childhood education.
