2013 GAZETTE: The latest Kids and Traffic Gazette on the magic of story sharing has been sent to all NSW early childhood services! It has lots of practical ideas for sharing stories around road safety education.

 

2013 CALENDAR: This year's Kids and Traffic Calendar of FREE professional development road safety education workshops in the greater metropolitan areas of Sydney has also been sent. 2013 COUNTRY WORKSHOPS: March workshops for early childhood educators in Tumut/Cooma/Queanbeyan and Dubbo/Wellington/Narromine are now being planned. Check our website for more Kids and Traffic workshops as they are planned throughout the year in rural, regional and remote areas of NSW.

 

NEW ROAD SAFETY SONGS! The Kids and Traffic team has contributed to three ROAD SAFETY SONGS on the NEW ABC CD, "Let's Go Play: Happy, Healthy Kids". Listen to "Crossing the road", "Click-clack" and "Helmet on my head". Come along to Kids and Traffic workshops for more learning and teaching ideas using these songs!Road Safety Guide image

 

Additional copies of the FREE Kids and Traffic resource, 'Road safety - A guide for families and carers of children 0 to 5 years' are available in 2013 for all families in NSW. Contact the Kids and Traffic team to order multiple copies.

To visit the Child Restraint Evaluation Program for up-to-date information for families and carers when choosing child restraints and advice on how to use them safely. For free brochures about child restraints including 'Child restraint safety ratings: Your guide to buying child restraints' just phone the Kids and Traffic team on (02) 9805 3200. Information in community languages is also available.

To help children starting school next year do so safely, download our two-page Starting School Safely leaflet and distribute it to their families.

To make sure your children's service receives all these Kids and Traffic resources, keep your contact details up to date. Fill out our Kids and Traffic Children's Services Information Update Sheet and return it to us by post, fax or email.

To keep on sharing the new child restraint laws with families at your children's service. All children up to 7 years must now be correctly restrained in an approved child restraint, suitable for their size and age. For 4 to 7 year olds, this means forward facing child restraints or booster seats. For more details about these new child restraint laws and for answers to some Frequently Asked Questions families might ask about them, click here. Kids and Traffic have addressed many of the issues involved in transporting young children safely in buses and other vehicles designed to seat 12 or fewer adults (including the driver) as well as in those designed to seat 13 or more adults (including the driver).
