It’s time: Pedestrian countdown timer program

Did you know pedestrian countdown timers are being installed across NSW at 29 intersections to improve pedestrian safety? These timers will encourage pedestrians to cross within the allotted times to reduce the risk of being hit by a vehicle.

The flashing red man signal will be replaced with new yellow countdown timers showing the number of seconds left for pedestrians to cross before the red ‘don’t walk’ signal appears. Audio-tactile facilities at crossings will operate as usual for visually impaired pedestrians.

Watch Transport for NSW’s video ‘Putting pedestrian countdown timers to the test’ for more information on trials of these pedestrian countdown timers.
